Oran Park Day
Well done MacArthur Club for organizing such a great Fathers Day Event. Anne
& Robert and children arrived at Cobbity Rd the same time as John &
Anne about the 10am mark. We paid our dues and went and set up our shade
tent and etceteras. Mario and co and Danny, Linda and boys arrived soon
after. Then it was let the fun begin.
The area had two driver trainer areas. Our tents backed on to an area
that helped you judge wheel placement by driving over cement sloped blocks
on alternating wheels and there was also THAT hill. One track was very
spectacularly up with a short stop at the top and a very steep down through
a water obstacle with cement bottom on the other side. Once at the top
you were committed to keep going even though I always think down is worse
than up. Everyone managed that very well except Danny the time he forgot
to put his vehicle in 4WD (sorry to dob you in there!).
There was an optional water/mud obstacle where people were honing their snatching
techniques by the end of the day. It was great that a wash bay area was
organized to hose off engine bays and radiators at the end of the day to stop
any overheating problems on the home trip.
I would have to say that little side track off the main hill provided the
scariest moment of our day. Although all was well directed by the people
at the deck at the top of the hill, doing a right hand turn on a steep slope
where your visuals are limited and you are completely reliant on others outside
the vehicle for direction, gave me the heebie geebies.
The second driving area was much bigger and a short drive from our mini tent
city. It had a variety of mini hills to tackle and one muddy crossing
and hill climb if you were game. There was ample of time in the day for all
to try their hand at all the tracks and help was readily and willingly given
if needed. The BBQ and drinks laid on were well organized and tasty. I
know our children enjoyed the help yourself drinks area throughout the day.
The only minor vehicle problem I was aware of on the day was our vehicle which
overheated due to the radiator being covered with mud. I haven’t
asked but I suspect the alternator may need a little attention soon too. However
even with this price to pay it was a great day for the adults and the children. A
lot of the children had bicycles and were well amused with riding around and
there was always the race cars to go and watch for a change of scene.
Well done MacArthur C lub for organizing such a great day out.
